Underground Parking Boom System

We installed licence plate recognition cameras and automated boom gates at all entry and exit points of Medicare Hospital's underground parking facility. The previous system relied on ticket machines that caused congestion and required regular manual clearing. LPR technology reads each vehicle's plate on arrival and links it to a pre-registered profile or a paid session, allowing the boom to open automatically with no ticket or tag required. Staff vehicles get whitelisted and pass through without stopping. Visitors pay at a self-service kiosk and the system validates their plate before exit. The hospital facilities manager monitors all parking activity and revenue from a web dashboard in real time.

The Challenge

Ticket machines are jamming 3-4 times a week. Queues are spilling onto the main road. Staff were late because they shared the same bottleneck as visitors.

The parking attendant spent the shift clearing jams and settling disputes. Zero time for actual security.

Management already knew about the revenue leak. Visitors were sharing paper tickets to dodge separate session fees.

One broken entry point was draining staff time, blocking access, and losing money daily.

The Approach

Dedicated staff lane. LPR cameras. No tickets.

We replaced the ticket machines with license plate recognition, eliminating jams entirely. Staff vehicles get automatic priority access through a separate lane. Visitors enter and exit without touching a machine.

Shared tickets became impossible. The system ties each session to a plate, not a paper slip. Revenue leakage stopped on day one.

The attendant went back to doing security work. The queues disappeared. Management got a dashboard showing every entry, exit, and unpaid session in real time.

One infrastructure change fixed four problems at once.
