Greenfield Estate was experiencing gate failures during loadshedding up to 6 times a week, leaving residents stuck outside and the property exposed. The estate’s electricity costs for gate and intercom operations had increased by 34% over two years, with no improvement in reliability. Residents were frustrated, the body corporate was fielding complaints daily, and the existing installer had no long-term fix on the table. The estate needed a system that operated independently of the grid without adding complexity for the on-duty security team.
We designed a solar array sized specifically for the estate’s daily gate cycle count and paired it with deep-cycle batteries rated for 48 hours of backup. The new system replaced the grid-dependent setup entirely, making load shedding irrelevant to daily operations. A cloud dashboard gave the estate manager full control over permissions and access logs without needing a dedicated IT person. Since commissioning, the estate has reported zero unplanned gate failures and a measurable drop in monthly electricity costs.
